Welcome to the Project.
My name is M---. I'm in my early 20s and am morbidly obese. I stand about 5' 8" and weigh in at 335 pounds.
My weight gain started about my sophomore year of college. Once I started my major classes, fraternity life, and working as a Resident Assistant, I began neglecting my health. Since then fast food has increasingly become a staple of my diet and I have neglected working out as I should. I was once a lineman on my high school football team, so I've always been used to eating pretty poorly. Once I stopped being so physical, that's when things began to change.
In the span of about four years I have gained about 100 pounds. And it's killing me. I come from a family of obesity and am constantly seeing the damage that extra weight is putting on their bodies. On some level I have always realized the severity of my situation, but have been able to put it off. Now my clothes aren't fitting right and I'm having trouble breathing after walking up a flight of stairs. It's time to change.
So this is where I will log my progress - or regression - as I aim to lose 150 pounds, or roughly one half of me. I will try to post as often as I can with a minimum of once a week. This will be my outlet to vent about the problems of being overweight, to complain about how much hard work it's going to take, and to remind myself of how it's no longer a matter of wanting to lose weight, but a necessity.
If you're struggling with weight loss feel free to read along and post in the comments. If you have and tips or suggestions feel free to tell me. Or just enjoy the ride.
Let's get started.
